So, I’ve felt very hipocritish lately with all this talk of adventure and my blog says I like to live my life and do all these things… blah blah blah.
Well, it is true, and we may need to get a little deeper into my defenition of adventure. But that is not the point of this post.
“Ad-Vent-ure: (according to andrew) is anything you are passionate about, anything that gets you into “flow” and anything that most people never (or simply you) have experienced or are likely to experience… It also has that journey into the unknown thing, so a business trip at the spur of the moment to New Zealand when you’ve never been and always wanted to go, would be an adventure. Simply put is it living more life, pushing limits and increasing your over all happiness. You can adventure from a computer or jumping out of a plane, whicever one is more exhilirating and “gnarly” for ya.
For me, adventure comes in a lot of flavors. But I wanted to announce and share an adventure that would push me to reach some goals, be fun, possibly generate revenue either for me or for some cause or for both, and inspire others to live more fully. Most of all, I just feel like a liar for not more fully living my own philosophy.
So here it is. I love my bike. Since I can’t snowboard this season (I blew out my ACL wakeboarding over the summer and come about April the Dr. will let me back on the slopes.) I have decided to venture out further. You see, in the summer, since I can’t snowboard, the closest feeling (the best way for me to get into flow) for me is to go mountain biking with good music playing on my ipod. When snow comes, and I can’t play I had to compromise. So here is the proof, I am riding my bike, in utah in January, in the snow. I am riding now, and loving it. Blue skys, right music, foggy breath and freaking cold fingers. It’s great.
The Adventure: 1000+ mile bike ride
I have always wanted to get into riding road bikes and thought of doing triathalons, but I hate running and its not great for the knees. Instead of killing myself for something that I hate, I would rather physically punish myself for something I love. Biking. SO I’ve had this goal/idea to ride my bike from Utah (home) to mexico, or california, or somewhere cool and far. Mexico is a great choice because I’m learning spanish and it would just be cool. There is a lot that could be done with the idea, but I am putting this up to hold myself accountable. I don’t know exactly how it will turn out yet, I am still kind of in planning mode, but I think I need to plan out the trip and set a date and some goals. I’m going ot be going to a lot more spinning classes at the gym in the mean time, the cold is a bit too cold sometimes. And my bike doesn’t have anti-lock brakes, so sometimes it is too icy. Anyway, please comment on this, tell me I am insane, crazy, or give me some pointers.
